Maersk takes over PUMA's U.S. distribution operations, with multi-client capacity planned for 2027

Maersk announced September 24 that it had begun managing PUMA's three automated U.S. distribution centers in Torrance, Phoenix and Whitestown, Indiana. The sites total approximately 2.3 million square feet and serve wholesale, retail and online orders.

Operations transfer and future capacity are different milestones

The expanded contract lets Maersk use available network capacity for other customers. It plans to offer other brands automated fulfillment at Torrance starting in 2027, with capacity for roughly 20 million units annually. This is an operating-services arrangement, not an announced purchase of the warehouse properties.

Understanding the update

The multi-client AutoStore offering is planned capacity; it should not be treated as immediately bookable space without provider confirmation.

What it means for drivers and carriers

Brands evaluating Southern California fulfillment should confirm onboarding dates, capacity commitments and transport connections before shifting inventory.

Questions to consider

  • What capacity and onboarding date will the provider commit to for the proposed fulfillment program?
